RUCKUS patented technology delivers the clearest signals while mitigating interference
BeamFlex smart antenna system is a RUCKUS proprietary suite of sophisticated algorithms and antenna control hardware that delivers higher throughput than standard omni-directional antenna systems. By adapting each antenna pattern to minimize interference and optimize the reception of any given client, this patented adaptive antenna system works on top of any standards-based transmit beamforming (TxB) approach to deliver up to 6 dBi of additional gain to a user’s device.
BeamFlex smart antennas offer up to 4,200 unique antenna patterns to optimize the reception of a given client, allowing each RUCKUS access point (AP) to provide more coverage and handle more clients compared to competitors.

Unlike omnidirectional antennas that radiate signals in all directions, BeamFlex smart antenna is an agile antenna array with up to 21 high-gain, directional antenna elements that are combined in real-time to transmit energy toward the best path to the receiving device. By dynamically configuring the Wi-Fi® “beam” hundreds of times each second, the BeamFlex smart antenna can adapt in real-time to environmental changes—steering signals around obstacles, interference, and other hazards that would otherwise negatively affect performance.
Adaptive antenna polarization
As part of the high-gain antenna elements, BeamFlex smart antenna also includes adaptive polarization diversity that further increases signal gain. Since users often hold mobile devices in orientations that severely degrade signal transmissions, BeamFlex smart antenna supports them uniquely by adapting antenna transmissions in both the vertical and horizontal axis through our polarization diversity-maximal ratio combining (PD-MRC) technology.
Powerful patented software
Our expert software system within BeamFlex smart antenna extracts important information from packets received in real time—information such as the sender’s performance, the optimum data rate, RSSI (received signal strength indicator), and error rates. It then ranks the optimum antenna patterns for each communicating device, keeping track of the best performing signal path at any time for any given client. BeamFlex smart antenna is more sophisticated than radio-based beamforming and is not client dependent.

By focusing on the signal using its array of antennas, BeamFlex smart antenna helps RUCKUS access points offer a higher capacity coverage over a greater area. Through better signal management, BeamFlex smart antenna allows RUCKUS APs to realize up to 6 dBi in signal gain. Best of all, because BeamFlex smart antenna allows RUCKUS APs to extend their range and coverage, fewer APs are needed to eliminate dead spots and deliver better network performance.
Mitigates interference, even in high-density environments
Unlike fixed-position directional antennas, BeamFlex smart antenna dynamically configures and re-configures its antenna pattern to focus RF energy away from the direction of interference—thereby attenuating noise to the receiving station. By interfering less with other Wi-Fi access points and clients, it can deliver up to 15 dB in interference mitigation compared to other APs.
Maximizes AP and client performance
By actively adjusting the antenna to focus on the client, BeamFlex smart antenna provides unmatched reception and transmission for handheld clients that constantly change direction. Regardless of a client’s antenna size, this self-healing, self-optimizing antenna system configures its Wi-Fi “beam” hundreds of times each second, in real-time—steering signals around obstacles, interference and other hazards to produce optimal performance.
